More Reviews of Thunderbolts # 118 With half the team seemingly losing their marbles, the situation in Thunderbolts Mountain is edging ever closer towards boiling point. Ellis has taken a rather unlikely premise and turned it into an intelligent read, and Deodato Jr's art has moved into another league during his time on the book. This continues to be one of the smartest and most compelling comics Marvel is currently publishing. 8/10 - Paradox Comics Group There's no question that Mike Deodato excels at this supergroup. He's at home in this tale of superhumans with dirty faces. The shadows would probably be the main character of the book is there were no letters. The lack of light sets the mood well within the group of characters currently occupying the Thunderbolts base. Osborn's office is complete with a window that creates a large latticework of shadows as the light bounces inside. It's one of Mike's signature moves, and it looks better than ever in this issue. Rain Beredo continues an unbroken stretch of stunning colors that match Deodato's art with excellence - I can honestly say that I've never been the biggest fan of Mike Deodato's previous work, but he is perfectly suited for this series. He has an uncanny ability to make the dark darker and the moody moodier. He also adds in a number of absolutely chilling scenes throughout the issue. I never knew that you could draw a guy sitting on a toilet in such an unnerving way. You notice that I still took off .2 from the score in the end. The only reason I did that was because, if done correctly, this arc's conclusion will definitely get better. |

Panel of Awesome reviews Thunderbolts # 118 Best panel of issue #118 would easily be the all-out assault by Venom on a team of guards. Venom bites off the arm of a guard, rips him into pieces and then tears his claws through the other. Deodato is a genius. - Mike Haynes |

THUNDERBOLTS #116 REVIEW by Silverbulletcomicbooks.com Deodato’s art continues to impress. He looks best when inking his own stuff. He's yet another great storyteller in Marvel’s stable of artists. I’m so glad the trend seems to be away from splash pages and poses these days. Deodato does it all. Dark monolithic hideouts and claustrophobic cells, big city action scenes, moments of tense conversation and blow ‘em up action. His women are beautiful yet not out of proportion, and his men are strong and sinister. He can do monsters and common men just as well. I don’t look forward to any fill in artists on this book, so here’s hoping the need does not arise. |

THUNDERBOLTS #116 REVIEW by Comicnewsi.com Mike Deodato, Jr. continues to shine like nobody’s business. His shadows complement the tone of this series with such excellence, it’s like they were made to mingle on the page. Warren Ellis seems to understand what will look better Deodato’s pen. Either that or he simply lets the master artist run with it. The panel transitions have a believable flow that allows Deodato to maximize his splash pages to the fullest. He works mostly in six panel grids, which look extremely good. He’ll choose to break the border for a couple of panels a page, bringing the characters out to the audience. |

THUNDERBOLTS #114 REVIEW by
Comixextreme.com
Review: This is an odd sort of issue, because it casts its main protagonists as villains, and the antagonists to the protagonists as the heroes. Sounds confusing, but for the most part that actually holds true and makes a lot of sense for how this series is now structured. Now that the once-noble concept of the Thunderbolts has been taken over by the Government and transformed by Osborn into a strike force comprised of questionable individuals, what really makes the Thunderbolts "heroes" other than the fact that we're told they are?READ MORE HERE |

CONAN AND THE MIDNIGHT GOD: WILL CONRAD'S ART REVIEWS The art in Conan and the Midnight God is of the high caliber that readers have come to expect from the recent Dark Horse serials centered on the Cimmerian. The pencils combined with the colors due an excellent job of invoking the other worldly feel of the age of Hyboria. Starkings continues to do an excellent job with the lettering, particularly in the faux-historical beginning. MORE REVIEWS HERE, AND OTHER REVIEW SITE 1 2 |

SILVER BULLET COMICS REVIEWS MIKE DEODATO IN THUNDERBOLTS 110 Mike Deodato's art complements Ellis script well, producing some real tension in the interview scenes involving Bullseye and Moonstone thanks to his atmospheric lighting and strong grasp of body language. His Norman Osborn is very obviously modelled on the actor Tommy Lee Jones, but after the initially jarring first headshot, it's easy to get used to and actually makes for quite a fitting and original choice. FRACTALMATTER.COM REVIEWS DEODATO, ELLIS AND THUNDERBOLTS # 110 " Ellis and Deodato have worked together before on The Mighty Thor but it is fair to say that both of them have honed their craft considerably since those early days. Ellis uses a combination of plot advancing, yet natural sounding, dialogue and insightful character moments to set up what looks like one hell of a story. Deodato supports this with some excellent artwork, mixing close ups and long shots in a very effective cinematic style. The opening sequence (featuring a conversation with Bullseye) uses a tight framing of Bullseye's face very effectively." - FRACTALMATTER.COM |
