Candice Han

Colorist

Candice Han is a professional full-time freelance comic colorist living in Malaysia Johor. She has worked on worldwide clients from different publishers. For instance, Activision (Call of Duty:Black Ops 4 Digital Comics), Disney Publishing Worldwide (Fancy Nancy Series), Mount Olympus Comics, Inception Strategies Social Comics, Red Giant Entertainment (Duel Identity). 
 
Her colors always spice up your meals.

 

Where were you born? Where did you grow up?
I was born on Kluang, Malaysia, and grew up on same place. =)

How about your schooling?
Had you gone under any art training?
I decided to pursue my art journey after I graduated from high school. I chose further study to professional art college in Kuala Lumpur. Dasein Academy of Art, majoring illustration course.

How long have you been working professionally in comics?
Not yet. I hope I’ll be given the opportunity really soon.

What things — both in art and otherwise — have you worked on, besides comics?
Are comics a full-time gig for you or part-time? 
I have ever work as background artist in 2D flash art for TV animation industries.
Now I’m full time working for illustration, comic colorist and trading game card.

Talk about how you broke into the business –was it easy? Hard? Ups? Downs? Any interesting anecdotes?
I broke into business just like everything in my life, after leave animation industry, I take my time work with comic. Anyhow, there are different between in the animation and comic field, so that is hard for me. But I was enjoyed it! Along all the way until I am introduced to comic industry by my friend.

How did you settle on the style(s) you’re currently using? If you have multiple styles how did you develop them?
I think the style will come out naturally through the process of producing tons of tough work. Every new job I have to do some color tests to adequate my style to penciller drawing.

How did your parents take to the idea of working in comics?
In my living country, comic industry is not that popular in United State. My parents have no idea in how the comic working. So they will curious and ask me how we do it. These show their concern to me and still have a mentally support for me to pursue my career.

How would you describe your work space? Is it part of your home, or do you go “to the studio”?
My workplace is in a study room at home. I always love listen to some pop music when I am working.

What job are you the proudest of?
The proudest work should be the” next” work.
I enjoy the every seconds of improving.

What are you currently drawing? Comments on that project?
I’m doing colors for a title in confidential.

Talk about your family: Parents, siblings, home situation.
I am living with my parents, nephew and younger brother. My father is a farmer. My mother is a housewife. My eldest sister just married. Brother was passed away in an accident few years ago. Younger brother is working in Singapore. I love them and we always enjoy our time when we met.

What projects do you hope to work on in the future?
Marvel, DC Comics, Top Cow, IDW or Aspen Titles.

Where do you see yourself in five years?  ten?
I hope to say I have created a name in the comics industry by then.

What’s 1 thing you’ll always find in your refrigerator?
Drinks!

What’s your favourite food?
Seaweed snacks!!!

What are your favourite interests –Movies? Music? TV? Any hobbies? Sports?
I love movie and music. I will go for singing with friends when I am free. I will catch up any of the movie is great in art and meaningful storyline. Sometimes I go gym for healthy.

What’s an average day in your life like?  Walk us through a typical day.
Start work in the morning. In my free time, I do my coloring. Besides of work, I spend some time with my family. I will do some personal practice or research before going to sleep.

Have you taught comic-book art or had any assistants?  If so, talk about that.
My boyfriend is also an artist. We will work together on some project.

The single thing you’d most like to be remembered for in your life is…?
People have need positive of thinking to face difficulties and we will have to back to God side in one day.
