Bernie Lee

Letterer

Letterer extraordinaire from beyond the seas, Bernie currently works for Zenescope, Moonstone, IDW and Hazmat on various projects from superhero to horror. Apart from lettering, he’s also the pre-press guy at Moonstone. Deliriously intent on breaking into the entertainment industry, his passion for comics is the drive that has opened doors and is appreciative of having met and worked with many notable names. Now with Glass House, he is eager to achieve a whole new level of industry recognition.

How would you describe yourself?
Occasionally fast and furious. At times, slow and steady. It depends on the time of day 🙂

What was your big comic “break”?
First big break was an issue of Phantom at Moonstone. I’m truly grateful for all the opportunities and professionals I’ve worked with since then.

How long does it take you to do the lettering for an issue?
Anywhere from a day to a week, depending on script, complexity and time.

Do you find differences in your lettering from one comic to the next?
Definitely. Each issue may require different styles to bring out the best in the story, art and dialog.

What is lettering besides just filling in words?
Lettering is an often under-appreciated part of the production process but it is actually vital to giving the whole thing a cohesive look and quality finish. I always letter to ensure that all my work is above the crowd and pleasing to the eyes.

What’s one thing you’ll always find in your refrigerator?
100plus – a sports drink kinda like Gatorade.

What other projects do you have lined up?
Lots are in the works, especially with Hazmat Studios. Looking forward to a boatload with Glass House as well.

Any closing words?
I’d like one of those cool Glass House Graphics shirts, please 🙂
