Where were you born? Where did you grow up?
II was born and grew up in Belo Horizonte.
I
How about your schooling? Had you gone under any art training?
I started to draw since I was a Young kid. Just like any other artist. Around that time I was a fan of several cartoons e since there were no toys of them I had to design my own toys. This way I started to draw and cut my own “animated figures” in paper to play. Then, when I entered in the Architecture University of PUC-MG, appeared the old “Fábrica de Quadrinhos” (Comic Factory), then I entered in one curse and started to develop my style.

How long have you been working professionally in comics?
Around 3 year, but only in small projects like Graphic Novels and Independent titles.

What things -- both in art and otherwise -- have you worked on, besides comics? Are comics a full-time gig for you or part-time?
I am graduated in Architecture. So, I work in both fronts, trying to manage both schedules with my classes in the “Casa de Quadrinhos”, where I teach. Just like others members of Big Jack Studio, I also do small jobs with advertising.

Talk about how you broke into the business --was it easy? Hard? Ups? Downs ? Any interesting anecdotes? When you held your first published work in your hands, how did you feel?
Breaking in was and still not very easy. It is very hard to enter in the big companies, a dream I have. The first time I had a contact with the American agent David Campitt, he told me that I had a great potential. Although it was not a big compliment, when I was driving back home my father’s car, I got so excited daydreaming that almost hit the back of a bus. Since then, through tests and small jobs I am trying to enter in the American market (The market of the great companies and the heroes of my childhood). Only after sometime I had something I worked in my own hands, but the first experience was not the best one. I had only 4 days to draw 11 pages. For me, today, it is a big production. And I had also some complications like drawing a few pages of one number to help another artist while the first pages (those drew by the “official” artist) wasn’t done before I started the second part of the comic. It was a big challenge since I had no information about what happened in the first pages. In the end, when I held the finish product I was disappointed because I knew that with more time and information I could do much better.

How did you settle on the style(s) you're currently using? If you have multiple styles how did you develop them?
To tell the truth, I had to alter my original style, following the advice of the agent when he first saw my work. He said I had potential but my style wasn’t fitting for that moment of the market. Then he gave me some artists to use as references. From there, with the help of my friends in the studio, I started to develop my new style.

How did your parents take to the idea of working in comics?
My Parents still, even today, very skeptical, because I have no stability in the market and that is why I have to keep doing other jobs alongside.

How woul d you describe your work space? Is it part of your home, or do you go "to the studio"?
When I graduated in architecture, I opened a little company with an Office. But after while it had to be closed and since then, my bedroom is a packed office with a bed.

What job are you the proudest of?
There is not one that I am especially proud about yet. It may sound repetitive, but with me always happens like the same, I always imagine that the next work will be my best. I am very critical with myself, and that is why that when I finish a work I only see what I could have done better. This is actually good for the future works.

What are you currently drawing? Comments on that project?
I just finished one Graphic Novel that isn’t published yet, so I cannot tell much about it. About the drawing process, it was very good since I worked alongside a good friend (and adversary, as he likes to put) and I could learn a lot about his working ways. Now I am again doing some tests to try to get a new job.

What projects do you hope to work on in the future?
As I already said: working in a big company in USA and the characters that are part of my childhood and teen years. I do not have any specific project. There are too many characters and teams that I like. It is bit like asking a little children in a big toy store which toy she would like to get.

Where do you see yourself in five years? ten?
I hope to be already established in the comic market, working only with comics. If possible working in a big title.

What is the interest in comics where you live? Do friends and neighbors know you draw comics for a living? How do they react?
Actually, many of my friends are in the same boat, trying to make their living with comics. All the process of opening space in the north-American market is shared by all of us. Even if sometimes some see us as adversaries, we are friends and always trying to give support and help each other, making our path less tormented.

What's 1 thing you'll always find in your refrigerator?
Always, Meat and coca-cola. I am a carnivore and addicted to coca-cola.

What's your favorite food?
As I Said, meat. I never stay without eating meat, but as my sister says, I am a truck… I eat anything that is eatable and standing before me.

What are your favorite interests --Movies? Music? TV? Any hobbies? Sports?
I like horror, action, police and science fiction movie. About music, I like mainly rock without any favorite band. Some music of Sepultura, Metallica and Iron Maiden, among other bands. My Hobbie, until recently was drawing but now it is a job. I like to cook, even not knowing much about it. About sports, as a good Brazilian, I am fanatical for football(soccer). I always like to watch some games, mostly games of Galo (Atlético Mineiro),  the team I support since I was a kid.

Have you ever thought of writing your own stories?
No. I was never very keen to write stories, even if I used to be a DM during RPG sections, but I do not think this count.
What's an average day in your life like?  Walk us through a typical day
Usually I wake up around 5:40 am to go to the Gym. Then at 8:00 am, after a shower and breakfeast I start to work and this goes until around 18:00, sometimes until 22:00. Saturday I teach in Casa de Quadrinhos.

Do you have any great, unsold projects in your files that nobody's gotten to see published?
No.
If you weren't a comic-book artist today, what would you be?
Architect, hehe.

The single thing you'd most like to be remembered for in your life is...?
I don’t know. Maybe for some great feat or being able to be a positive influence on those I knew. I dunno. Trully, I never stopped to think about it. This questions seems to demand a more grandious answer.
