Penciller, inker, colorist, and web graphics designer FABIANO SILVA NEVES was born 27 years ago in Americana Town (State of São Paulo, Brazil), and he's the third in a family of four sons. 

 

He has a degree in accounting, but never worked as accountant.

Drawing has always been his hobby and, at the age of 13, he decided to attend a course of Artistic Drawing to improve his work. Since then, drawing has become an essential part of his life. 

 

An avid reader and fan of comic books, he focused his drawings on this field, leading to his winning a comics award in his home country for Best New Talent. 

 

When drawing was still a hobby, he started to work as a clerk in a stationery shop.

One day, he read in a newspaper that Brazilian artist were working for American publishers and, tempted by the opportunity, he booked a meeting at the Art & Comics agency in São Paulo to show his portfolio Once there, Fabiano was guided by Helcio de Carvalho and the young artist could realized the reality of a professional who works with comics. He was told his work needed improving and was shown the ways to do that. The path to his new career had begun.

"Helcio was my first contact with the professional world of comics. In my first test pages, even panel borders weren't right", explains Fabiano. 

 

During the learning process, he had the opportunity to attend the David Campiti's BREAKING IN Seminar in Brazil, where he could improve his techniques even more and started to see the world of comics and its professionals in a different way.

For nearly three years he sent in his test pages, in hopes that he had risen to the challenge. While waiting for a positive reply, Fabiano started to work for advertising agencies. 

 

"I learned to operate many graphic software programs," he says. "With my knowledge in drawing, it was easy to deal with these and I could do a number of illustrations for ad campaigns in Americana, my home town."

He really caught Glass House Graphics's attention on a project commissioned from Femme Fatales, a jungle girl pin-up based on a model, which he penciled so tightly and confidently it look inked. 

 

 

He then surprised everyone with some skillful color and digital design. "That's when David told me, 'I think you're ready.'" Within weeks, Fabiano Neves was assigned XENA: Warrior Princess #5 for Dark Horse Comics.

This first opportunity didn't stop Fabiano from doing and sending more test pages for various publishers and, in 2001, his second job came in: a WWF comic book featuring The Rock, published by Chaos! Comics. 

 

This year, he's been working on a four-issue Purgatori mini-series, also for Chaos!. He also drew -- and inked -- the Purgatori: Heartbreaker #1 Special, released on Valentine's Day.

 

Apart from comics, Fabiano illustrated several covers for Sexto Sentido magazine published by Mythos Editora, and several "web tour" montages for adult websites.

 

Other work includes storyboards and educational books illustrations for Fabrica de Quadrinhos, a Brazilian art school.

His major influences are, among others: Marc Silvestri , Travis Charest , Leinil Francis Yu, J.G Jones, Mike Deodato, Joe Bennett, Ivan Reis, among others. 

 

"I'm currently working in a realistic style," says Fabiano. 

 

 

"I always liked photographic art and want to incorporate it in my work. 

 

I'm still a bit of a careful artist, working an average of 14-16 hours a day." 

 

 

I find it easier to work with some music on and my favorite bands are: Stuck Mojo, Pennywise, Nada Surf, Machine Head, Bad Religion, Sublime. 

 

I also like Brazilian bands such as Sepultura, Ratos de Porão, Jorge Cabeleira, and Chico Science e Nação Zumbi."

Fabiano says his main goal is to evolve with each job he does. His hopes for the future are being assigned a monthly comic book and having his work recognized by editors and fans alike.
