Where were you born? Where did you grow up?
I was born and  grew up on a Military Air Force Base in São José dos Campos, Sao Paulo. I lived in there for 16 years, until I moved to a close neighborhood at the same city.

Schooling? Art training?
I learned a lot of things with comics and arts in general by talking, studding and training with professional friends at the industry, attending seminars and doing a lot of research and study by myself, but I got a strong knowledge of art and comics by teaching at Quanta Academy of Arts in Brazil and doing Art Direction instructed by David Campiti.

How long have you been working professionally in comics?
Since 2001.

What things -- both in art and otherwise -- have you worked on besides comics? Are comics a full-time gig for you or part-time?
Comics is the very first job of my life and I’m proud I’m doing this for a living since I broke into the business.
Talk about how you broke into the business --was it easy? Hard? Ups? Downs? Any interesting anecdotes? When you held your first published work in your hands, how did you feel?

To be honest it was very easy for me to break  in. You just have to work hard, no secrets. When I was 14 years old I decided I would be a comic book penciller and I did tons of sample pages for a full year and invested all the time I had. I remember I did 5 sample pages a week in that time. In the next year, all my efforts was paid off.
When I held my first published project I felt that as a dream that was materialized and it was hanging in my hands.  I also felt a really good hope  that I could be someone in this industry and that I wouldn’t need to study and work on something boring that I would regret for the rest of my life.

Did you work as an assistant to any other artists? If so, please talk a bit about those experiences.
Yes, I’ve worked as assistant for my friend Adriano Batista. It was a very special time, where I would learn a lot about comics, drawings, et cetera. That was really something important in my career.
How did your parents take to the idea of working in comics?

My parents always supported me in all the ways, but they thought in the beginning that it was my hobby, since I love drawing since I was a little kid. I’m glad that since the first check arrived in my house, they look at this as a real profession and they’re very proud of me. They really see this as something special.
How would you describe your workspace? Is it part of your home,
or do you go "to the studio"?

I have my own studio at home to take care of my creative job and a real office that I run for Glass House Graphics, to do managing stuff.
The office is shared with other artists and I just run business in there. In my home though, it is a nice environment where I have my books, comics, videogame and everything to keep me inspired and at a good atmosphere to do creative work.

What job are you the proudest of? What's your most embarrassing?
The job I’m proudest of is Remenants Series. I could do everything I wanted there, I had a lot of support from creator Zach Matheny and I was always welcomed to bring new ideas and my creativity was really supported. I hope everyone can check this book out this year.
And I don’t have any embarrassing work, really.

Talk about your family: Parents, siblings, home situation. Are you married? Have kids? Names? Anecdotes about married life, how it relates to your busy schedule, etc. If you have kids do they understand your job? What do they say about it? Do they read comics?

I’m single and I don’t have any kids, but I have three little nephews (Miguel (9), Thomas (4) and Leonardo (1) that just loves to be in my studio in the weekends. They’re here all the time, playing my DS and PS3 and checking the stuff I’m drawing, my books, such as Naruto and other cool mangas and watching anime, such as Naruto, Dragon Ball, One Piece, etc. They’re often  on my drawing board and on my tablet as well, drawing stuff. The newest one only has one year and a half and holds a pencil like a genius. His name is LEONARDO ISHIMURA, BTW. J

What projects do you hope to work on in the future?
I don’t really think about this since I’ve been working on “dream projects” lately.
But my biggest dream is work on a project with Hideo Kojima.

Where do you see yourself in five years? Ten years?

Hopefully on a Porsche Store buying their newest (AND fastest ) supercar. :D

What is the interest in comics where you live? Do friends and neighbors know you draw comics for a living? How do they react?
Nobody really understands what I do to be frank, but they know I’m an comic book artist and they respect this a lot. There is a lot of comic book fans around and they’re always very energetic and curious about this.

What's 1 thing you'll always find in your refrigerator?

Moti

What's your favorite food?

A bloddy Picanha!

What are your favorite interests --Movies? Music? TV? Any hobbies? Sports?

I’m glad my favorite interests are always in my job and life. I listen to music all the time while I work and I play music with my band at weekends. I’m constantly watching anime and reading manga to get inspired as well as playing videogame, since this is part of my job.  The only passion I have that is not related to work is CARS, so I can say, driving is my favorite hobby. As for sports, I often play tennis, run and go to the gym for some height lifting.

Ever been in a gang?

I wish I could be in a Bike-Gang in Tokyo but never had the chance! :D

What's an average day in your life like? Walk us through a typical day.

I work until 3AM, so I usually wake up around 9ish. I eat breakfast while I check some websites, such as newsarama and kotaku, then I start to work hard and there it goes my day. Sometimes I have to go out quickly to run errands, but from Monday to Friday, the only thing I do is work. I’m glad my work is fun, so I’m good. The weekends, I usually spend with my family, nephews and with my friends in my band. I have a ritual every Sunday,  to play music and then going to drink tea. :D

If you weren't a comic-book artist today, what would you be?

A rockstar!

Have you taught comic-book art or had any assistants? If so, talk about that.

Yes, I teach comic book art since 2003, it is a really good experience and I learn as much as my students. And no, I never had a assistant. In my work, there isn’t anyone that can do it besides me.

The single thing you'd most like to be remembered for in your life is...?

I still have the dream to be a game designer, so I hope I can someday in future be remembered by a great game that I produced.

Any closing words for your fans?

Thanks so much for everything!!!
