Where were you born? Where did you grow up?
Masan , South Korea , but moved to Brazil when I was still 2 years old.
Schooling? Art training?
Studied 3 years in Visual Arts at Fine Arts of São Paulo (FEBASP) and currently studying animation.
How long have you been working professionally in comics?
Not that long. To tell the truth I never worked in a level I can really say ‘I work professionally with comics'. But I'll change that!
What things -- both in art and otherwise -- have you worked on besides comics? Are comics a full-time gig for you or part-time?
I've worked as a manager from a clothing store company for 1 year, made some freelances for local anime/manga magazines and a few participations at national comics. Working with comics has always been a part-time job, but there is always this dream to be able to live doing that!
Talk about how you broke into the business --was it easy? Hard? Ups? Downs ? Any interesting anecdotes? When you held your first published work in your hands, how did you feel?
Well, it hasn't happened yet since I just entered in the comics business for serious! But I'm really looking forward to it! And I believe it will be a great experience. Did you work as an assistant to any other artists? If so, please talk a bit about those experiences.
I've worked as a final-artist for Combo Ranger, a national comics from Brazil . It was my first job for a big publish house so I was very excited. Unfortunately yhe comics didn't go too far. But it was a good experience because there were lots of great artists involved and it was a real pleasure to know them and exchange experiences.
How did your parents take to the idea of working in comics?
I'm really glad for having such nice parents. They always have supported me since I was a child (by not punishing me for drawing on the entire wall inside the house, for example!). Of course it was something difficult for them to accept as a job since most of the job was made at home.
How would you describe your workspace? Is it part of your home,
or do you go "to the studio"?
I mostly work at home, although I would love to work at a studio or somewhere I could call ‘working area'. Because I'm pretty much sure I could work much more without the distractions from home.
What job are you the proudest of? What's your most embarrassing?
I'm really proud of making part of Mercenário$. It's one of those projects that u want to be in because you trust on the people involved and there is a real commitment to make it come true.
Now the most embarrassing I was a comics called Faherya Chronicles. At the time I was still very young and naïve by making it. Both writers and me weren't mature enough and I didn't have the commitment needed since I was still studying and had other priorities. The final product itself wasn't good.
What are you currently drawing? Comments on that project?
Talk about your family: Parents, siblings, home situation. Are you married? Have kids? Names? Anecdotes about married life, how it relates to your busy schedule, etc. If you have kids do they understand your job? What do they say about it? Do they read comics?
What projects do you hope to work on in the future?
I believe I want to work on my own comics someday. Not for the money, but for the passion I have for my characters :)
Where do you see yourself in five years? Ten years?
Doing what I still love to do: drawing! …..maybe also married…who knows?
What is the interest in comics where you live? Do friends and neighbors know you draw comics for a living? How do they react?
Everyone looks pretty much surprised about it. Most of them have no idea that there is such way to get a living.
What's 1 thing you'll always find in your refrigerator?
Korean food
What's your favorite food?
Anything that have chicken
What are your favorite interests --Movies? Music? TV? Any hobbies? Sports?
jogging, watching movie making of's.
Have you ever thought of writing your own stories?
hell yes! Every time, anytime. The bad thing is that I'm not as good in joining my ideas all together, but I always look for some help at this part.
Ever been in a gang?
I guess so! Every year there is a gang of artists gathering at conventions and we always hang out a lot while we are together :D
What's an average day in your life like? Walk us through a typical day.
Wake up early in the morning usually at 7 a .m., go jogging with the dog, and after that start working on drawing and paintings. At the afternoon I work at my part-time job and at night I go the animation classes till 10 p.m. After I arrive home I usually work a bit more on the drawing and finally go to sleep.
Do you have any great, unsold projects in your files that nobody's gotten to see published?
Yes. I still look forward to see it published one day.
If you weren't a comic-book artist today, what would you be?
a veterinarian, I believe.
Have you taught comic-book art or had any assistants? If so, talk about that.
never.
The single thing you'd most like to be remembered for in your life is...?
make a character design for a game :)
Any closing words for your fans?
Well, all I can say is thank you for all the support.*hug
