Where were you born? Where did you grow up?
I was born in Limoeiro do Norte and I still live here.
Have you already taken a drawing course/art training?
Not really. I had taken a course with Ed Benes a while ago but I'm still his student.
How long have you been working professionally in comics?
Just for a little time. I just started doing my first editions.
In what things -- both in art and otherwise -- have you worked on besides comics? Are comics a full-time gig for you or part-time?
Comics are full-time. I've already got involved with animations and sculptures but only comics have given me something more.
Talk about how you broke into the business -- Was it easy or hard? Did you get through ups and downs? Any interesting anecdotes? When you held your first published work in your hands, how did you feel?
It was hard. I'm still trying actually, but I got lucky. I got a good chance and I believed it and the sensation of having a comic book drawn by me in my hands is amazing, even if it's not a great job, it's wonderful.
Have you already worked as an assistant of any other artists? If so, please talk a bit about these experiences.
Yes and it was a great experience. Everyone helping each other made it a good way to learn.
How did your parents take the idea of working with comics?
They've always been supporting me, even it's not an ordinary job over here.
How would you describe your work environment? Is it part of your home,
or do you go "to the studio"?
I work in a studio. That's nice cause I have all the stuff I need and the people here are cool.
What work are you proudest of? What's your most embarrassing?
I like all them.
What are you currently drawing? Comments on that project?
None in special, just some freelance jobs.
Talk about your family: Parents, siblings, home situation. Are you married? Do you have kids? What are their names? Do you have anecdotes about married life? How does it relate to your busy schedule? If you have kids, do they understand your job? What do they say about it? Do they read comics?
I live with my parents and I have two younger brothers. I'm not married and I don't have kids. My family has already got used to my job.
What projects do you hope to work on in the future?
I don't have any in special, but I wanna keep working with that.
Where do you see yourself in five/ten years?
Drawing. I want to establish myself in this area.
How big is the interest in comics in the place you live? Do your friends and neighbors know you make a living from comics? How do they react?
The comic books are pretty popular over here nowadays and so does our work. Some people don't understand the comic book environment, so it makes people feel curious about it. Many people visit the studio. My friends will get used to this cause I only talk about comics.
Tell us one thing we'll always find in your refrigerator.
Juice
What's your favorite food?
Pasta, it doesn't matter how it's prepared!
What are your favorite interests? (i.e.: movies, music, TV, sports, any other hobbies, etc)
I like a bit of everything.
Have you ever thought about writing your own stories?
Yes, I have a few projects to be done.
Have you ever been in a gang?
No.
What an average day in your life is like? Walk us through a typical day.
I don't do many things other than drawing. I arrive at the studio early and then I work till 12 a.m. I take a break for having lunch. In the afternoon, we work hard till the night. After I leave the studio, I get back home and then I hang around the city to meet my friends.
Do you have any great unsold projects in your files that nobody's got to see published?
Savage Tales: 3 issues
If you weren't a comic-book artist today, what would you be?
I think if I wasn't a comic book artist, I'd surely be involved with other kind of art, maybe animation or music.
Have you already taught anyone comic book art or had any assistants? If so, talk about that.
I had already given a course to poor children in a neighbor city, but I've never had an assistant.
The thing you'd most like to be remembered for in your life is...
Be remembered as a penciller
Any closing words for your fans?
Do your best. Every single day.
