Where were you born? Where did you grow up?
I was born in Aracaju , Sergipe Brazillian state and I live in Recife , Pernambuco state actually
What was the first comic you read?
The first comics that I had read was Duck Donald da Disney. My father had a complete collection of this comics . My first super-hero reading was Captain America of Jack Kirby in the first time that he was published in Brazil
Who where the first artists to influence you?
I believe that it was Alex Raymond and Joe Kubert initially , after Jack Kirby, John Buscema e John Romita. Later when I started to draw professionally I was influenced by several Brazilian authors and some European as Enki Bilal and Moebius.
Who influences you now? Generally artists with realistic style as Brian Hitch, Grag Land , Adam Hugh and Mike Deodato.
What comics do you currently read?
Anything of Brian Hitch and Greg land in the art. Or with authors as Mark Millar and Alan Moore.
What things -- both in art and otherwise -- have you worked on, besides comics? Are comics a full-time gig for you or part-time?
It can seem strange, but I am graduated in biology and I already worked on several projects related to environment. But I have always been a commercial illustrator and a free-lance artist.
How long have you been working professionally in comics?
As several Brazilian artists of my generation I started doing my own independent magazine with my siblings in 1985. My first work professional was through a contest realized by a horror magazine, with which I collaborated up to 1992, from there onwards I did several other individual works in different magazines.
Tell about your working habits. How fast do you work? How long does it take you to pencil a page, on average?
When I receive a script, I first do several researches on the characters and places. After this I do a sketch of all the pages in small size and after in format A3. Depending on the script I manage to do on an average two pages a day.
How would you describe your workspace? Is it part of your home or do you go “to the studio”?
I work on my house, because I have all necessary comfort and all that I need to perform the work.
What are you currently drawing? Comments on that project?
I nowadays work with an independent publisher I a mini series call the hunters, a science fiction and terror history, which I like very doing and I also collaborate with that publisher in some other individual scripts.
If you could pick one comic character to work on, which would it be and why?
Yes, several. Some especially as Batman, Spider Man and Alan Moore's The Extraordinary League. Pretentious?
Who is your favorite hero?
Spider man
Who is your favorite villain?
The Joker.
Do you have any great, unsold projects in your files that nobody's gotten to see published?
Yes, several. Any scripts that I developed with my siblings and I never got to put in practice.
Can you ink?
Certainly, but I am trying to develop a cohesive style for my pencil, because of this I am emphasizing more that process.
Do friends and neighbors know you draw comics for a living? How do they react?
Simply they do not believe, because in Brazil is not a common career.
If you're working from another country, do you need a translator?
No, my English is good. One or another word I need search in the dictionary.
