Where were you born? Where did you grow up?
I was born in Calamba (Philippines) and spent most of my life there
Schooling? Art Training?
No. I have no formal art trainig.
How long have you been working professionally in comics?
I'm an unpublished artist at the moment so I can't really consider myself as a professional inker
What things - both in art and otherwise - have you worked on, besides comics? Are comics a full time gig for you or part time?
Well, I was a part-time Aikido Instructor for 3 years almost a year as a clerk for 711 and 5 years singing professionally in a show band back here Manila before I signed on for Glasshouse Graphics.
I can consider comics as a part-time job at the moment because I still have right now a boring day
job.
Talk about how you broke into the business - was it easy? Hard?
Ups? Downs?
I really don't have any published works at the moment but it took about 4 years before i signed a contract for Glasshouse Graphic s and it was real hard to break in the business.
It was pretty intimidating because of the competition. We have lots of talented people back here. It's hard to compete with them.
How did you settle on the style/s you're currently using? If you have multiple styles, how did you develop them?
I was first influenced by Carlo Pagulayan's inking back in college where we first met then started an org for comic enthusiasts. Until now I' still trying to develop my own style and I think I'm getting there.
Did you work as an assistant to any other artists?
No.
How did your parents take to the idea of working in comics?
Foolish?! Because they really don't have any idea how everything's done on a comic book. They just can't relate. A lot of people back don't, so its hard to explain to them what I' doing
How would you describe your workspace? Is it part of your home, or
do you go "to the studio"?
I usually use a light box for my inking and you can call it a portable one. I can take it anywhere in the house but I usually work on the dining table. How i wish I had a studio like Carlo's !
What jobs are you the proudest of? What's your most embarrassing experience?
I did a pin-up which was given to me by Mr. Gerry Alanguilan (originally pencilled by Mr.Whice Portacio). It was an X-Force cover.
What are you currently drawing? Comments on that project?
I'm just trying right now to ink some samples to build a sizeable portfolio and that's it. No projects at the moment.
Talk about your family: Parents, siblings, home situation.
I'm married with a one year old daughter named China Ysabelle . Its kind of hard to divide my time being a Dad and preparing samples for projects. I sleep late just to finish one page and still have to go to work at seven. and on and on...
What projects do you hope to work on in the future?
I really don't have any specific project in mind that I'd like to work on but the X-Men would be great!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?
I see myself working full time in comics and being successful in the business.
What is the interest in comics where you live? Do friends and neighbors know you draw comics for a living? How do they react?
They don't have any idea actually. They say that I'm just wasting my time. Comics here is just considered a past time and that's it!
What's 1 thing you'll always find in your refrigerator?
ICE COLD WATER and some food.
What's your favorite food?
Adobo, kare-kare, kaldereta , pasta.
What are your favorite interests - Movies? Music? TV? Any hobbies? Sports?

Have you ever thought of writing your own stories?
Yes, but I would probably not be a good writer.
Ever been in a gang?
NO.
What's an average day in your life like?
I start my day around five or six in the morning---do my chores and have my breakfast afterwards. Play with my daughter a bit then I'm off to the office. I go home at six the try to ink some pages for samples and go to sleep at around twelve or one in the morning.
Any humorous or interesting anecdotes to tell about the comics
business?
None.
Do you have any great, unsold projects in your files that nobody's
gotten to see published?
Not yet!
If you weren't a comic-book artist today, what would you be?
I think I would still be in a Band wasting my time or a full time Aikido Instructor, this is one thing I really love.
Have you ever taught comic-book art or had any assistants?
No
The single thing you'd most like to be remembered for your life is.?
A responsible family man.
Any closing words for your fans?
My God!!! Do I have one?! Anyways, just keep trying and don't give up...just hold on to your dreams!
