Where were you born? Where did you grow up?
I was born and grew up in Sao Bernardo do Campo - SP
Schooling? Art training?
I studied at Faculdade de Belas Artes in Sao Paulo, but unfortunately I didn’t finish the course.
How long have you been working professionally in comics?
Professionally since 2002, but I love comics ever since I was a kid.
What things -- both in art and otherwise -- have you worked on besides comics? Are comics a full-time gig for you or part-time?
I have worked as an attendant at a Blockbuster, but for less than a year, after that I have always managed to work with art, either as a freelancer at a publishing house or on a comics project.
Talk about how you broke into the business --was it easy? Hard? Ups? Downs? Any interesting anecdotes? When you held your first published work in your hands, how did you feel?
Well, it wasn’t easy, the first person who gave me an opportunity was Fabio Yabu from Yabu Media, that’s where I started to improve my drawings and learning more about how the advertising and comics market work.
Did you work as an assistant to any other artists? If so, please talk a bit about those experiences.
Now I work at Fabrica de Quadrinhos, I work as an art assistant, sometimes as a penciller, inker and I produce the base color for storyboards and animatics.
How did your parents take to the idea of working in comics?
They didn’t like it very much at the beginning, but now they support me.
How would you describe your workspace? Is it part of your home,
or do you go "to the studio"?
At home, my “studio” is improvised on my kitchen’s table. When I need to work at home, I place a few magazines, my rulers, pens and brushes and start working.
What job are you proudest of? What's your most embarrassing?
The only project I have that was published in the USA was for the comic book Cadre, # 02 and 04 for the publisher Nifty Comics, where my agent at that time tricked me and took every single penny of it.
What are you currently drawing? Comments on that project?
I have a project of a comic book with characters I created, but it’s still in development, I’ll think about it in the future.
Talk about your family: Parents, siblings, home situation. Are you married? Have kids? Names? Anecdotes about married life, how does it relate to your busy schedule, etc. If you have kids, do they understand your job? What do they say about it? Do they read comics?
Well, I’m married, no kids, I have a wife who loves me very much, and so do I, my only concern is to make her happy
What projects do you hope to work on in the future?
I hope I can work with some of the most recognized names in the market today, like: John Romita Jr, Mike Deodato, Ivan Reis....
Where do you see yourself in five years? Ten years?
At Marvel or DC Comics.
What is the interest in comics where you live? Do friends and neighbors know you draw comics for a living? How do they react?
At my work, some people like it so much it scares me, and my family doesn’t really care.
What's 1 thing you'll always find in your refrigerator?
Water and frozen food.
What's your favorite food?
Barbecue and pasta
What are your favorite interests --Movies? Music? TV? Any hobbies? Sports?
Recently, I have been to Chile, where I could ski for the first time in my life, I really liked it and I hope I can go back there pretty soon. I’m a fan of the TV series House.
Have you ever thought of writing your own stories?
Yes, I still do... maybe in the future... who knows…
Have you ever been in a gang?
No
What's an average day in your life like? Walk us through a typical day.
It’s quite boring, a daily routine of waking up, getting dressed, having breakfast, going to work and coming back home.
Do you know any funny or interesting anecdotes to tell about the comics market?
No, just sad ones (laughs)
Do you have any great, unsold projects in your files that nobody's got to see published?
No
If you weren't a comic-book artist today, what would you be?
I would like to be a F1 racer, I love cars.
Have you ever taught comic-book art or had any assistants? If so, talk about that.
No
The single thing you'd most like to be remembered for in your life is...?
I would like to be remembered for being a nice guy and a professional who always delivers his works in time.
Any closing words to your fans?
Well, that’s it guys, I hope you enjoy my inking and my published drawings.
