Jazma Online Interviews Jinky Coronado - Jinky Coronado: BANZAI GIRLS will be an all-new full-color series from a new publisher -- Arcana Studios. My story picks up about six months after the end of the BANZAI GIRL ANNUAL. Michelle and I are doing a musical tour to supplement our "Banzai Girls" CD, so half a year has passed -- we've missed a lot of school, setting us back a couple of semesters. It's given Katie J time to graduate high school and join us in college...and for the fans, of course, that means Michelle and I are back in our schoolgirl uniforms for another year. The characters have progressed a bit with their lives, as you might expect. The story still reflects my real life -- sort of through a funhouse mirror. READ MORE

Gateway Monthly Interviews Jinky Coronado - GM: Hi Jinky! A major in marketing and a minor in art, yet here you are, one of the world's top comic book artists? It must be a source of inspiration to all those artists out there who want to make it but the grades aren't great. What's your advice to aspiring comic book artists?
JC: Top artists? Do I look like Mike Deodato to you? Do I have a square head, a butt chin, and one humungous eyebrow across both eyes? Do I?? :) Advice? Learn your craft. I attended Glass House Graphics's CREATING COMICS SEMINARS probably nine times, doing hundreds of layouts and many dozens of pages, before I was ready. I went in steps, made sure I learned the right way to do it. And I had to know how to draw the stuff for real before I could make conscious decisions what to exaggerate and adapt. It took me years to learn how. There's no magic trick. READ MORE

Glass House Graphics Interviews Jinky Coronado - Where were you born?  Where did you grow up? I was born in Iloilo, Philippines, and lived there most of my life with my family.  My parents are Pepito and Judith, and I have a sister Michelle and two brothers -- Pejee and Jhopet.  I moved to the U.S, several years ago to work as an artist, a writer, and a model, and I've been fortunate enough to work steadily as all three.
Schooling?  Art Training? I was graduated with a degree in Marketing from the University of San Augustin and a minor in art.  I've also taken all the Glass House Graphics seminar courses in comics and commercial illustration.  Plus I've learned so much over the years from such terrific artists as Wilson Tortosa, Larry Tuazon, and Tina Francisco.  I also count Mike Deodato and Will Conrad as two of my dearest friends, and I've learned a bit from them, as well. Interview at Neko -HOW DID YOU FIRST GET THE IDEA FOR YOUR OWN COMIC BOOK?
About four years ago, I attended a Creating Comics seminar in Malina taught by David Campiti of Glass House Graphics. I was so fascinated with comics and how to do them that I kept going back to later seminars. Someone at the first seminar, who disappeared, suggested the name Banzai Girl to me. Eventually, I connected with another seminar attendee, Wilson Tortosa, and we began working on Banzai Girl and the backup strip, Katie's World, together. Wilson's so great! He's like a brother to me. He's drawing Battle Of The Planets for Top Cow. READ MORE
